One-on-one support for gardeners

If you’ve spent years creating a garden, A Patch of Green can work alongside you to keep it thriving.

Co-gardening means we work in your garden together with your knowledge and vision, and my capable pair of hands.

Many of the gardeners I work with have decades of experience. They know their soil, microclimates and plants by name. That expertise shapes everything we do together.

My role is to support your vision, not replace it. If your needs or energy change over time, sessions can adapt with you. Some visits might be active and hands-on; others might be quieter as we check in on the garden, plan ahead, or just enjoy your garden together with a cuppa.

Who is this for?

This service is a good fit for gardeners who:

  • Have an established garden they love and want to maintain.

  • Find certain tasks like digging, heavy pruning and kneeling have become harder on the body.

  • Want a second pair of hands without handing over full control.

  • Are thinking about adapting their garden to be easier to manage, without losing what makes it unique.

  • Simply enjoy gardening with company.

How it works

  • Co-gardening chat

    Free Introductory Chat

Meg will visit your garden where we'll have a relaxed conversation about it’s history, what you enjoy, and what you'd like help with. You're welcome to have a family member or support person join.

  • Aged care gardening

    Tailored Plan
Together, we'll work out a rhythm (regular or casual visits) and decide what each session looks like. You're in charge of the agenda.

  • Ongoing Support
Sessions evolve with you. If your needs or the garden's needs shift, we adjust. You'll always know what we did and what's coming next.

FAQs

  • Co-gardening simply means gardening together. I work alongside you in your own garden where you direct what we do, and I help carry it out. It's companionable, practical, and completely shaped by you.

  • Not at all. Your experience is something I respect and learn from. My job is to support what you're already doing, and to offer suggestions only when you ask for them.

  • That's something we can explore together at any pace. Some gardeners find it useful to gradually adapt their space by reducing areas that need heavy maintenance, or introducing plants that ask less of the body. As a qualified garden designer, Meg also has the skills and knowledge to redesign certain areas if you wish.

  • You don't need to be able to do anything in particular. Some clients garden actively alongside me; others prefer to direct from a chair or nearby. Sessions are shaped around your comfort and energy on the day.

  • Yes. If you or someone you care for is living with dementia, the garden can be designed to feel familiar, calming, and easy to move through independently.

Meg has experience in dementia-friendly garden design and can work with you to make thoughtful adjustments over time.

  • Sessions are currently offered within 15km of Preston, VIC. See the full list of suburbs here.
