Preston Front Garden

STATUS: GROWING

COMPLETED OCTOBER 2025

Transforming a tired Preston front garden into a vibrant family‑friendly oasis, this landscape design showcases raised vegetable beds, a playful lawn space, and child‑safe planting. Once a sea of pebbles and mulch, the garden now bursts with natives, whimsical exotics, and a wildflower meadow to create year‑round beauty and functionality.

Before

Once a rental property, the space was dominated by pebbles and mulch, dotted with a few lavenders and diosmas. The uneven path was difficult to navigate, and loose gravel often found its way indoors. A Patch of Green took on the garden design after the brick fence and gates were installed.

After

Now, the garden is a welcoming and functional family space:

  • Play area designed for children to enjoy safely

  • Raised vegetable beds and a lemon tree that invite homegrown produce into daily life

  • Wide, accessible path perfect for prams and easy movement

  • Drip irrigation for low maintenance

  • Evergreen native vines to screen the fence

Planting

The planting scheme is thoughtfully child-friendly, blending:

  • Native species for resilience and connection to place

  • Whimsical exotics that spark curiosity and imagination

  • Wildflower meadow offering year-round sensory delight

This transformation has turned a barren, impractical frontage into a vibrant, family-focused garden that celebrates both play and planting.
